- An Honorary Bachelor’s Degree Awarded to a Key Repair Mechanic, and Father and Son Studying in the Same Department

Kyungil University held the ‘Graduation Ceremony for the 2017 Academic Year’ at the Library Auditorium on November 23 (Friday). On the day of the ceremony, President Chung, Hyun-Tae, professors, guests, and parents attended the ceremony to congratulate the graduates.

1,270 bachelor’s degrees, 37 master’s degrees, and 13 doctoral degrees were awarded to 1,320 students in all. Mr. Bae, Young-Gwang in the Department of Chemical Engineering received a bachelor's degree on behalf of his fellow graduates. Ms. Kim, Eun-Ji of the Department of Computer Engineering was awarded the prize of the Chairman of the Board of Directors. Mr. Lee, Shi-Joon and 25 other students were given the prizes of the President. Other prizes which included the prize of the Governor of Gyeongsangbuk-Province, the prize of the Mayor of Gyeongsan-City, the prize of the president of the alumni association, and the award citation of the LG Display CEO, were offered to other graduates.

"Through congratulations and encouragement, I applaud the graduates who are entering the society to realize their dreams," said President Chung Hyun-Tae in his reminiscent speech. He also told them to become proud Kyungil University graduates who would mold the future of Korea based on knowledge gained by their own majors, creativity and challenging spirit.

On his graduation day, Mr. Shin, Ki-Hwan, a key repairman who became a hot topic on campus after he donated his entire real estate to Kyungil University, received an honorary bachelor's degree. Mr. Shin, Ki-Hwan, who is a first-degree speech/hearing-impaired person, has been operating a key repair shop for more than 20 years in a space of two-pyung in Kyungil University Student Center. In June last year, he donated all of his own property (which amounts to 140 million Korean Won).
Kyungil University awarded an honorary bachelor's degree in social welfare, considering that he practiced the life of sharing through his donation and that he also contributed to students’ happiness with his warm smile and kindness.

Mr. Shin said, “I have never thought that there would come a day when I could receive a bachelor’s degree, so this is even more meaningful.” “I will live a life conducive to university and society, as one of proud Kyungil University alumni,” he added.

There was also a heartwarming story in the graduation ceremony, in which a father was offered congratulations by his son who has been studying in the same school. Mr. Chung, Chang-Won (49 years old), who graduated from the School of Architecture, attended his graduation ceremony with his son, Mr. Chung, Hyun-Joon (20 years old), a sophomore in the School of Architecture. Mr. Chung, Chang-Won, who runs a business in Daegu, graduated from a college and transferred to Kyungil University in 2014. When his son, Hyun-Joon was about to enter a college, he encouraged him to attend Kyungil University.

Jung said, “My son has always dreamed of becoming an architect, so I confidently recommended Kyungil University to him because I have had much experience of going to school and I also have known many architecture alumni.” “As for college life, my son left home to live in a dormitory, but I could see him in school, so we came to have a better relationship than ever. I won’t forget the architecture field trip to Gyeongju-City that the supervising professor, my son and I went on together because we have been under the supervision of the same professor,” he also said.
