- Cyber Security Kim Seung-hak · Choi Seongho Student, Researching Hacking Risk of Smartphones and OS

Kim, Seung Hak (26) and Choi Sung-ho (28), who are studying at Kyungil University (cyber security department), were honored to publish their thesis in the world's most well-known academic journal, 'SCOPUS.’

The two students' papers were recognized for excellence at the '2018 World IT Congress' held in Jeju Island in February, and they have since continued to publish in academic journals. It is very rare that an undergraduate student who is not a master's or a doctoral student led the researching process, wrote the research results in an English paper and published the research in the international journal as the main author and not as a co-author.

'SCOPUS' is an excellent academic paper quotation index made by Elsevier Netherlands in 2004. It contains more than 18,000 scientific, technical, medical, and social science papers published by 5,000 publishing companies around the world. It is the world's largest cited database.

The title of Mr. Kim‘s paper is 'Detection schemes of man-in-the-middle attacks on smart devices'. The main content of the thesis is that smart phones and notebooks are vulnerable to man-in-the-middle attacks, and security books are presented accordingly. In his research, he focused on smartphone security research by demonstrating that smartphones are not responding to hacking attacks experimentally and by implementing detection algorithms that can respond to such attacks.

The title of Mr. Choi’s paper is 'Undetectable malicious attacks using scheduler freezing in operating systems'. The main contents of the thesis are about stopping the operating system (OS) scheduler, malicious behavior, what kind of attacks are possible, and how big the threat of attack is on systems. Recently, malicious acts such as bitcoin digging have been conducted in hidden places and these acts among many other malicious acts are currently being discussed.

"I can not believe it," said the two students, "everything that has happened is unbelievable." "I would not have even tried it if weren’t for Professor Jung Ki-hyun and friends of the K-Hackers club in my cyber security department. I put all my heart into this research.”

The two students who agreed that their future goals would be to become top security experts in Korea said "We want to do projects in system security, web security, network security, reverse engineering, database security and forensics”

Professor Jung Ki-Hyun of the Cyber Security Department said, " I am very proud of them and
I want to train the white hacker; the next generation security leader to fight against black hackers by providing them with various activities such as security projects, both on the inside and outside.
