On April 27th the ‘Gatekeeper’ club in the Nursing Department, under advisor Yoo So-yeon, held a ‘seeing, hearing, and speaking’ education model which is the Korean standard for suicide prevention training with the Gyeongsan City Health Center. On that day, nine educated students were newly appointed as ‘Gatekeepers’. The club has actively operated, adding new gatekeepers which now total 53 members, since it was appointed as a ‘Gatekeeper’ by Gyongsan City in September, 2013.
According to the Korean Council for University Education, nearly one out of 10 Korean university students admit to experiencing stress, anxiety, and even suicidal thoughts due to exam stress and academic pressure, etc. Prof. YooSo-yeon said, “The ‘Gatekeeper’ club will perform its role as an illustrious gatekeeper to protect precious lives, to construct and promote a culture of life, and to broaden the range of the activities of the club.”
