Kyungil University (President Jeong Hyun-tae) held the inauguration ceremony of the only curling team among universities nationwide at 11 am on April 1 (Thursday) in the main conference room.

The founding ceremony was attended by the president Jeong Hyun-tae, Kim Yong-bin, the president of Korea Curling Federation, Park Sun-hee, the chairman of Uiseong Curling Association, and Hoon-seop Shim, the principal of Uiseong Girls' High School. Officials from the Korea Curling Federation and athletes also participated in. The inauguration ceremony was held in the order of congratulations of guests, an introduction of athletes and a coach, a delivery of representative team flag, and a delivery of support funds to the curling team.

Kyungil university's Curling team is the only university team nationwide which is to be founded in the form of a professional sports team. It is a male curling team composed of four freshman male athletes (Lee Jae-bum, Pyo Jeong-min, Kim Eun-bin, Choi Jae-hyuk) and a professional coach, Kim Chi-gu. It is planned to establish additional men's and women's and mixed curling team for graduates of Uiseong High School and Uiseong Girls' High School in the future. In particular, Pyo Jeong-min and Kim Eun-bin were the players who received attention when they were in Uiseong High School, surpassing the strong business teams in the '2020 KB Finance Korea Curling Championships' and placing their team in the semifinals.

Through a speech of encouragement, president Jeong Hyun-tae said, “Kyungil university has created a curling team following the soccer, baseball, and taekwondo teams to invigorate the university sports.” He emphasized, “By operating the curling team, we will contribute to improving the performance of curling sports in Korea and strive to foster professional talents.”

Kim Yong-bin, the president of Korea Curling Federation, said, "I am grateful for the foundation of the Curling team at Kyungil University. I believe that like K-pop, the curling sport will dominate the world stage with K-curling.“

Kyungil University signed an MOU with Uiseong-gun on the 22nd to foster curling talents. The training grounds will be the Uiseong Curling Center established with international standards.
