Two professors and nine students from K-Beauty Department at Kyungil University (President Chung Hyun-tae) donated their talents as makeup and hair styling staff to one of communities, the 7th Musical Star held by Daegu International Musical Festival (DIMF). ‘Musical Star’ is the first musical audition program organized by DIMF to discover and nurture talented people who will lead the future Korean musical and performance market. It is a big competition with 904 teams (928 applicants) from all over the country. Professors and students at Kyungil University had a valuable time gaining practical experience by taking charge of stage makeup and hairstyling for the "Top 7" that came up through a fierce competition consisting of five stages for five months. Nine students who dream of becoming makeup artists and hair designers donated their talents by adjusting the actors' makeup and hair-styles to suit the situation to emphasize the stage management and character's characteristics. Kim Min-hye, a senior student at the Department of K-Beauty who participated in talent donation, said, "It was so good to show off my skills on a big performance stage that was typically not easy to be accessed. I felt proud and rewarded. Also, the experience made me dream bigger." Nam Ji-soo, a senior student, said, "It was an exciting opportunity to learn what goes on behind the scenes. I realized how important and helpful it was to understand and analyze characters in musical pieces." In addition, Professor Park Sun-min (K-beauty director of Kyungil University) said, "The reality is that there is a lack of opportunities for young talents in rural areas compared to metropolitan area. DIMF's global stage allows students to dream of professionals in the field of performing arts, providing a high-quality field stage." Students are not simply evaluated from this competition to the extent that students can gain practical experience. Park, Jeong sook, secretary-general of DIMF, said, "This cooperation between Kyungil University's K-beauty department and DIMF indicates that DIMF is expanding its scope to fostering musical actors as well as nurturing professionals. We will try to produce synergy in creating jobs and contribute to the development of local industries." |
