Ahead of clinical practice, 137 students pledged to be “true medical professionals”

The 12th Kyungil university nursing department nightingale oath ceremony was held on last Wednesday, November 2nd at the university library auditorium.

At the oath ceremony, 137 second-year nursing students took the oath. Considering the risk of re-spreading COVID-19, it was held with only school officials in attendance.

The Nightingale Oath Ceremony is an event where sophomores in the nursing department pledge their service and dedication by inheriting the spirit of the Nightingale before going to the hospital for clinical practice.

Before going to clinical practice at various hospitals, including university hospitals, 137 second-year nursing students held a candlelight ceremony. During the ceremony, they pledged to "inherit the noble spirit of nursing of the Nightingale, to live a life of benefit, and to dedicate themselves to the well-being of the people being cared for."

Um So-bin, who took the oath as a representative student that day, expressed her feelings saying that "Before becoming a medical professional, it is a meaningful time to reflect on the sense of duty and pride in the profession of a nurse."

President Jeong Hyun-tae said, “Based on a life of giving even the little things that you have, I hope that you will become true nurses in an educational environment with excellent professors. He also added, "I hope that someday you will become excellent medical staffs like the seniors who are working hard in the field now."
