KIU celebrated its 60th anniversary with a grand ceremony held on campus on April. 12th.

KIU was founded under the motto of "Industrialization for National Development" in accordance with the 5-year economic development plan (1962~1966), aiming to rebuild our country, which was devastated by the Korean War, through industrial technology. It started as one of the industrial vocational schools and later transformed its academic disciplines in line with the national economic development plan to become the present-day Kyungil University.

With a history of 60 years, KIU has cultivated talents that have led industrial development, laying the foundation for the economic growth of our nation. Today, we are nurturing technical talents that lead the fourth and fifth industrial revolutions.

KIU achieved the distinction of being the first university in South Korea to obtain a license for autonomous driving vehicles. Furthermore, we acquired a license for autonomous small buses and are currently operating autonomous shuttle buses between Hayang Station and the campus. We also received a contract for a pilot project on autonomous driving operations from the Gyeongbuk Provincial Government recognizing our capabilities. Recently, KIU established a college specializing in content creation in response to the growing influence of the OTT industry on the global stage and is preparing for a content-focused specialization.

As part of the pre-event activities on this day, a ceremony was held to confer an honorary doctoral degree in business administration on Dr. Seo Jung-ho, the CEO of Ajin Industries, and the unveiling ceremony of a statue of the founder, Dr. Ha Yeong-soo, took place. A campus tour was also conducted, and over two thousand alumni and guests attended the 60th-anniversary celebration, offering their congratulations and support for the future endeavors of KIU.

President Chung Hyun-tae, in his commemorative speech, emphasized, "The university has become a pivotal part of the local ecosystem," adding, "KIU will take the lead in innovating local industries, dedicating itself to the revitalization of the regional economy and striving to benefit the local community to the fullest extent."
