Our university's drone sports team, 'Red Bears,' clinched victory for the two consecutive years at the '4th Daegu-Gyeongbuk LINC3.0 DG9+ Extreme Environment Drone Competition,' held at Yeungnam University on November 15th.

This competition, held as part of the collaborative program among universities executing the Daegu-Gyeongbuk Link 3.0 project, focuses on competing in the mastery of responsive drone control techniques to maintain flight in extreme conditions.

This year's competition, held at Yeungnam University's Pungdong Laboratory, featured two events: the main competition, which focused on overcoming basic and two extreme environments, and an anti-drone evasion competition, where participants responded to incoming projectiles in a wind tunnel simulating airflow effects on objects.

Our university achieved a remarkable feat with three teams participating, winning the top prize, gold, and bronze medals in the main event, and securing the first and second positions in the anti-drone competition.

The Red Bears, who secured back-to-back victories this year and last year, is a newly formed team established in October of last year, primarily composed of students from the Department of Photography and Motion Picture. They have been accumulating a series of accolades, including receiving the Mayor's Award for third place in the drone soccer category at the '1st Commander-in-Chief's Trophy Drone Robot Combat Competition' held in June.

The background behind the rapid success of the newly established team, Red Bears, can be attributed to the systematic and specialized education programs provided by our university's Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Education Center, established in 2018, as well as the support from the DX Mobility specialization area of the Link 3.0 project. Currently, a course titled 'Arduino Drone Theory and Fabrication Lab' is being continuously offered to enhance the drone utilization skills of our enrolled students.

Kim Hyun-woo, the Vice President of Industry-Academia Collaboration who also serves as the head of the Link 3.0 project, stated, 'Winning the competition for two consecutive years despite the challenges faced by the newly formed team holds even greater significance.' He added, 'We will strive to cultivate professionals in line with the era of easily accessible and popularized drone usage.
