Department of Railway

KYUNGIL UNIVERSITY School of Railway and Electrical Engineering

To foster and develop experts of 21st century electric energy and cutting-edge electric trains

Overview

  • Since 1963, the department of electrical engineering at Kyungil university, which was previously called the 'Kyungpook Techincal Open University' and 'Kyungpook University of Technology', has produced over 5,000 graduates in 50 years, which is the largest number of graduates among any departments of electrical engineering in the Daegu/Gyungbook region universities.
  • Various regular educational programs and special courses are included in the syllabus so that the students can acquire licenses in electrical engineering and railway engineering as well as gain the ability to perform PLC and CAD.
  • For the first time among 4-year-universities in Korea, the college of railway engineering, has been established in order to produce experts on railway industry and technology, which is one of the 21st century's high-tech industries. It is expected that there will be a large-scale demand for field personnel in the railway industry. This demand will be higher in the near future due to increases in the share of transportation invested in the national railway system, and the high possibility of technology exports of high-speed railway systems.

Curriculum

  • to organize basic courses in order to study electrical engineering theories
  • to organize practical courses in order to study mainly with experience in the field
  • to introduce new courses concerned with high-tech subjects such as renewable energy and nuclear energy, etc.
  • to enhance the ability to perform PLC and CAD via practical training
  • to designate subjects that are necessary to take the employment examination of railway companies in compulsory courses

Career

  • Public enterprises associated with power IT (KEPCO, KESCO, Korail, Metro, etc)
  • Electrical engineering field in the major conglomerates (Samsung, Hyundai, LG, Posco, etc)
  • Small and mid-sized construction companies related to design, supervision and construction in electric, fire-fighting, and communication
  • The maintenance of electric equipments in public building such as apartments, schools, and BAS (Building Automation system), etc
  • Domestic and foreign graduate schools
  • Individual proprietors concerned with electrical and railway engineering
