KYUNGIL UNIVERSITY College of engineering

Introduction of Engineering

The college of Engineering at Kyungil University fosters talented people in science and technology who are poised to lead in the development of future driven power by providing students with an oriented hands-on experience in both general and engineering education.

The College of Engineering was founded as a college of Technology, which was annexed from Chung-Gu College and then transformed into the University system. Since then, it has achieved extraordinary growth in both quantitative and qualitative aspects. Currently, the College of Engineering consists of 3 undergraduate divisions (Mechanical engineering, Automotive engineering, and Mechanical Design) and 6 academic departments (Chemical engineering, New and renewable energy, Architecture, Architectural engineering, Satellite and electrical engineering and Undeclared majors). As our program continues to tighten our reputation as the best engineering program in the Yeongnam region, our college currently includes 70 faculty members as well as about 2500 undergraduates and 200 graduate students.

By securing major government sponsored grants each year, every department in the College of engineering has established state-of-the-art equipment and facilities to provide an education which focuses on specialized engineers who will have the ability to work closely in different fields. In 2004, most of the departments in the college of engineering were selected for and awarded 4.4 million dollars of a national grant named The New University Regional Innovation (NURI) and for 5 years (2004~2009) we have intensively invested resources into engineering education. As a result, this has nominally and virtually created a turning point in which it now gives us a standing as one of the best colleges of engineering in the world.

In 2007, the College of Engineering also established the Innovation Center (RIC) for engineering education and began participating in the program for the 'Accreditation Board for Engineering Education of Korea' (ABEEK). ABEEK is a quality assurance for the education program which corresponds to the ISO system in the Industry. By completing the whole ABEEK program, graduates of the program are accredited throughout the world as specialized engineers in the mechanical and automotive engineering fields.

Most of the graduates in the College of engineering have been recruited by many leading conglomerates in Korea such as Samsung, LG and Hyundai, who maintain a core role in leading local communities and our nation into the future.

The college of engineering offers generous financial support for honors freshmen and students in need of financial aid by providing various kinds of scholarships which have been raised from on/off campus sources. More than 80% of the enrolled students get the benefit of financial support from the college of engineering.

The College of engineering will continue its efforts to produce future talented people by utilizing a well-established network of local industries and research institutes. By recruiting famous scientists and experts throughout the world we will maintain a competitive edge in the industry.

This makes us a leading institution which is well placed in the world to be able to provide competitive manpower for the nation and local communities in the 21st century.

Message from dean of the college of engineering

Fostering practically and globally competent engineers who will lead 21st century

Welcome all of you to the college of engineering at Kyungil University. Since Kyungil University was founded in 1963, the College of engineering has maintained a firm stand as the best college of engineering in the Yeongnam region who has lead local communities and national development.

During the last 50 years the College of Engineering has produced graduates with bachelor, master and doctoral degrees who have taken a leading role in the industrial development of many research institutes, educational institutes and commercial industries. As we are currently the best institute for engineering education, with about 70 faculty members and offering 20 majors, we are making great efforts to provide a quality education to our undergraduate and graduate students.

As a continuing goal, we will keep striving to create driven power for future development by offering future oriented engineering education, running an ABEEK-based practice education program, expanding our international exchange of research and personnel with foreign universities, and developing an international internship program.

Last but not least, your attention and encouragement for the College of engineering will firmly establish us as the best educational institute who will lead the development of local communities and our nation.
